Guiding Vattenfall to ISO 55001 Certification for EV Charging Assets

The transition towards electric mobility is accelerating, creating new challenges for organizations managing large-scale charging infrastructure. Reliable, safe, and efficient asset management is becoming increasingly important as Charge Point Operators (CPOs) expand their networks and manage growing numbers of critical assets.

At OHROS Consulting Group, we supported Vattenfall’s EV business unit in achieving ISO 55001 certification for its EV charging assets in the Netherlands. We guided the certification journey from initial preparation and implementation to the successful completion of the independent audit.

Building a Robust Asset Management System for E-Mobility

Vattenfall is one of Europe’s leading energy companies, producing and supplying electricity and heat across several European countries. With a strong presence in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, and the Netherlands, the company plays an important role in the transition towards a more sustainable energy system.

Through its e-mobility business, Vattenfall provides electric vehicle charging infrastructure and services. Under its InCharge brand, Vattenfall operates public and fast-charging stations in Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands, supporting millions of charging sessions every year.

With approximately 78,000 charging points across Northern Europe, ensuring reliable performance and effective lifecycle management of these assets is a key priority.

To support this ambition, Vattenfall adopted the ISO 55001 standard, the internationally recognized framework for effective asset management systems.

ISO 55001 provides organizations with a structured approach to managing assets throughout their lifecycle, optimizing performance, controlling risks, and ensuring alignment between asset management objectives and overall business strategy.

By implementing an ISO 55001-aligned asset management system, Vattenfall strengthened operational transparency, improved regulatory readiness, and created stronger alignment between its asset management strategy and broader organizational objectives.

Supporting the ISO 55001 Certification Journey

At OHROS, we supported Vattenfall throughout the certification process by combining our expertise in strategic asset management with knowledge from multiple asset-intensive industries, including energy, oil & gas, and infrastructure.

This cross-industry experience allowed us to bring proven asset management practices into the e-mobility sector while adapting them to the specific requirements of EV charging infrastructure.

Our support focused on establishing the right level of maturity across key asset management capabilities, including processes, governance, systems, and organizational alignment. We also supported Vattenfall in preparing for the independent certification audit.

“In today’s fast-evolving e-mobility landscape, where uptime, safety, and asset reliability directly impact customer experience and market position, an effective asset management system provides the data-driven foundation required to maximize asset value throughout the asset lifecycle.” – Ennio Neumann Senese, CEO OHROS Consulting Group

Raising the Standard for E-Mobility Asset Management

Through this achievement, Vattenfall became the first Charge Point Operator (CPO) in the world to achieve ISO 55001 certification for its e-mobility asset management footprint.

This milestone demonstrates the growing importance of professional asset management practices within the rapidly expanding EV charging sector.

As Vattenfall stated, the certification raises the standard for how EV charging infrastructure should be managed, ensuring reliability for users, greater control over lifecycle costs, improved resilience, and a continuous focus on improvement.

Looking ahead, Vattenfall aims to significantly expand its charging network across Europe, with an ambition to reach approximately 500,000 charging points by 2030.

As e-mobility infrastructure continues to scale, a mature asset management approach will be essential to ensuring reliability, sustainability, and long-term value creation.
